Luxury B&B Manoir in Cognac, France

The Orchard Manoir is a beautiful traditional manor house, set in a large acreage of formal gardens and orchards.  From its vantage point in Cognac, one is easily able to explore 'the real France' by sampling the delights of the region or travelling a little further afield to the highly-regarded beaches of La Rochelle.  

Inside

• Style: The Orchard Manoir manages to blend the old and the new remarkably well – beautiful antiques sit comfortably beside more modern pieces to create a luxurious feel, retaining character yet delivering all the contemporary comforts you would expect from such a high-acclaimed property.  The cool hues of the grey, blue and white walls have a calming influence, yet there’s added drama sparkle from the wonderful chandeliers in each room.
• Bedrooms:  There are two double en suite rooms, also a twin room and double room with a shared bathroom, ideal for families.  In each room you will find complete luxury, the beds are prepared with the finest quality Egyptian cotton and there are fluffy bathrobes for complete relaxation.
• For relaxation:  The beautiful drawing room is the perfect place to take drinks, possibly accompanied with some of the owners home-made cakes.  Enjoy the tastes of the region whilst your eye is drawn to views over the front and back gardens, landscaped with cypress trees, scented roses, irises, topiary and sculptures.  Alternatively, relax on the poolside loungers under the sunshine with a good book. (Please note that the pool will be shared with the gite guests)
• For recreation: For the more competitive guest, play table tennis in the barn, or croquet out on the lawn; there is also a badminton net and boules to keep you entertained.

Outside

Surrounded by nine acres of formal gardens, orchard and meadows, there’s plenty to explore. The scent of ripe fruit leads you to the orchards, where you can help yourself to figs, cherries and plums, there’s also nectarine, walnut and apple trees, After a walk through the grounds, the pool is a great place to cool off from the afternoon heat and relax.   

Food and Wine

• Breakfast: Enjoy a delicious, truly continental breakfast out on the terrace in the early sunshine, with fresh baked croissants and bread accompanied by conserves made from the orchards.
• In-house Cuisine: Your hosts are more than happy to prepare evening meals, the owner is a trained chef and can design a bespoke menu for you to enjoy. Given notice, she can prepare aperitif's and canapés followed by a delicious four course menu with coffee and cognac to finish at an additional price of thirty Euro's per head (by prior arrangement).
• Eating Out: Your host can recommend some fantastic restaurants local to the area, these vary from simple and rustic to more formal and refined eateries. 

Out and About

Poitou-Charentes is a beautiful region, boasting wide opens meadows, long sandy beaches, heavily scented pine forests, and quaint Romanesque villages set in cognac vineyards.

• Visit the delightful Medieval town of La Rochelle with its harbourside cafes and shops
• Visit Cognac, the medieval town where the fabled nectar has been created since the 17th century and where the air is permeated by the aroma known as angels share.
• Bordeaux renowned for its world famous wines and vibrant cultural life, is just over an hour away
